Install on Quest, in the card above, is the one-click USB install. These steps are the manual path (SideQuest or ADB).
Overview
Animal Crossing VR by LiquidAzir puts Nintendo's 2002 GameCube life sim Animal Crossing on Meta Quest 3 as a standalone first-person VR game, no PC or streaming needed while you play. It is based on the ACGC-PC-Port native PC port and the ac-decomp decompilation, with OpenXR tracking, motion tools (swing the net, axe, shovel and fishing rod with your right controller), weather-aware skies, repaired scenery and an in-headset VR Settings menu. You can switch between first and third person. A Windows/SteamVR build is on the same release page.
Install type: APK + your own game files. The Quest zip's Windows installer (Install-Quest.cmd) installs the APK and copies your disc image into the app's private storage over USB.
[!IMPORTANT] No game files are included. You need your own Animal Crossing USA Rev 0 (GAFE01_00) disc image as
.iso,.gcmor.ciso. RVZ and zipped images do not work, and renaming an RVZ to ISO does not convert it. No ROM, extracted assets or saves are bundled. Fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo.
[!NOTE] Beta. v0.9.3-vr20 (September 30, 2026) is the first release with the standalone Quest 3 version, and Quest 3 is the only tested headset (the APK declares Quest 3 only). Quest and PC saves are separate and do not sync.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 with Developer Mode enabled.
- A Windows PC with SideQuest's Advanced Installer set up (it provides ADB), and a USB cable. Mac/Linux users can use the manual route below with ADB and Python 3.
- Your Animal Crossing USA Rev 0 (GAFE01_00)
.iso,.gcmor.ciso.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Download
AnimalCrossing-Quest-v0.9.3-vr20.zipfrom the official GitHub release v0.9.3-vr20 and extract it completely. It contains the APK and the Windows setup helper. The separateAnimalCrossing-Quest-v0.9.3-vr20.apkdownload is for manual installation only: installing the APK alone does not supply the ROM. - Connect the Quest by USB and accept Allow USB debugging in the headset.
- Close Animal Crossing on the headset, double-click
Install-Quest.cmdand choose your disc image when asked. Wait for the success message; a large ROM can take several minutes. - Unplug the USB cable and open Animal Crossing from the headset's Unknown Sources list.
Manual setup (ADB + Python 3, also for macOS/Linux): close the game, then run (device_data.py is included in the Quest zip):
adb -s YOUR_QUEST_SERIAL install -r AnimalCrossing-Quest-v0.9.3-vr20.apk
python3 device_data.py --adb /path/to/adb --serial YOUR_QUEST_SERIAL --rom /path/to/AnimalCrossing.iso
The helper creates the app's private folders with the correct owner and verifies the transfer. Do not copy the ROM into Android/ with a file manager. It can also back up a save (--export-save /) or bring a PC .gci save into an empty Quest slot (--save /). Full details are in MANUAL.md.
Updating: extract the new Quest package and run its installer again. It updates the app in place and keeps your ROM, saves and settings. Do not uninstall or clear app data, which deletes the stored ROM and your progress.
Controls (Quest Touch)
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Move / turn | Left stick / right stick |
| Talk, confirm, use equipped tool | A or right trigger |
| Pick up, cancel / back | B or left trigger |
| Run | Hold B, left trigger or right grip while moving |
| Inventory | Y or left stick click (left grip moves items; right grip changes page) |
| Town map (once obtained) | X |
| Previous / next pocket tool | Hold left grip + left stick left / right (down puts the tool away) |
| Toggle house / cottage lights | Right stick click |
| First / third person | Hold left grip, then press Y |
| Recenter view | X + Y together |
| VR Settings / pause | Click both sticks together |
Motion tools: in first person, equip a net, axe, shovel or fishing rod and swing your right controller (A or the right trigger also works). VR Settings include hand visuals (off by default), smooth or snap turning, motion swings and volume; press Apply to save. They are not available on the title screen or inside NES games.
Installer says no headset or unauthorized: wake the Quest, reconnect USB, accept the USB-debugging prompt and disconnect any second Quest. ADB not found: open SideQuest once to finish its setup, or extract Google's platform-tools next to Install-Quest.cmd so platform-tools/adb.exe exists. "App is running": quit Animal Crossing in the headset and retry. Game data error: the dump must be USA Rev 0 (GAFE01_00) as .iso, .gcm or .ciso; RVZ or zipped images do not work. Installing only the APK gives no game: run Install-Quest.cmd or the device_data.py helper to import your ROM, and never copy it into Android/data by hand. Updating: run the new installer over the old install; uninstalling or clearing app data deletes the ROM, saves and settings (back up saves with device_data.py --export-save first). Holding left grip turns the left stick into D-pad input, so release it to walk again. Quest 3 only; Quest and PC saves do not sync.
