Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Install on Quest, in the card above, is the one-click USB install. These steps are the manual path (SideQuest or ADB).
Overview
Magic Carpet VR runs Bullfrog's Magic Carpet (1994), Magic Carpet: Hidden Worlds (1995) and Magic Carpet 2 (1995) natively in stereo on Meta Quest: real roomscale flight, the original worlds all around you and spells in your hands. It is an all-new engine that drives each eye, built on Zdenek Behan's open-source Magic Carpet reimplementation.
Highlights: two separate eye frustums with proper IPD, fully 6DoF, dozens of spells bound to each controller (cast two at once), an optional Enhanced Mode with faster gameplay and over double the view distance, and terrain deformation in stereo.
[!NOTE] No game assets are included. You need your own copies (original disc, GOG or another full install): Magic Carpet and optionally Magic Carpet 2. A full install is about 1 GB for all games. Hobby project: no support line, back up anything you care about.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 2 or 3 with Developer Mode enabled.
- Your installed copy of Magic Carpet (and optionally Hidden Worlds / Magic Carpet 2).
- A Windows or Linux PC for the one-time data conversion, plus SideQuest or ADB.
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Install the APK
Download mgcarpet-vr.apk via 1-click on QuestPorts or from GitHub Releases and sideload it:
adb install -r mgcarpet-vr.apk
2. Create your data folder
Copy the game data into a new folder called gamedata with this layout:
gamedata/
Magic Carpet Plus/
CARPET.CD/game.gog
Magic Carpet 2/
game.gog
GAME/NETHERW/
3. Convert your data
Download the converter (mgc-import-windows.zip or mgc-import-linux.zip, v0.1.0) from the same release and run:
mgc-import bake gamedata/ baked/
4. Copy it to the headset
adb push baked/ /sdcard/mgcarpet/baked/
5. Play
Launch Magic Carpet VR from Unknown Sources. The front-end scans the data folder and lists the games it found: pick Magic Carpet, Hidden Worlds or Magic Carpet 2 and click Start. The carpet is steered with the thumbsticks, and every Touch button is used.
If a game is missing from the front-end list, check the gamedata folder layout and re-run the mgc-import bake step before pushing the baked folder to /sdcard/mgcarpet/baked/. Status per the author: Magic Carpet 1 and Hidden Worlds are fully playable start to finish with movies and audio working; the Magic Carpet 2 campaign is playable but some things are not fully working; extra non-campaign levels, mods and multiplayer are not available yet. It is a hobby project with no support line; contact the developer on X (@Congocart) or via the GitHub repository.
