Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Install on Quest, in the card above, is the one-click USB install. These steps are the manual path (SideQuest or ADB).
Overview
Quest 3: OOT runs The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time fully playable in VR, standalone on Meta Quest 3: no PC, no cable, no streaming. It is a Quest port of Ship of Harkinian VR by ShinyWindow, built on Ship of Harkinian (HarbourMasters) and linkzenic's Android port.
You are Link in first person at full scale, with real motion controls: swing to attack, raise your hand to block, draw the slingshot and bow with both hands (with a landing marker), grab and throw Deku Nuts and bombs, and pick items from a 3D ring around your hand. OpenXR on OpenGL ES with single-pass stereo holds 72 fps even in Hyrule Field.
[!NOTE] No game assets are included. You need your own Ocarina of Time ROM (check it at ship.equipment). Fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 with Developer Mode enabled.
- SideQuest (Advanced Installer) or ADB on a computer.
- Your own supported Ocarina of Time ROM.
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Install the APK
Download Quest3-OOT-v1.3.apk via 1-click on QuestPorts or from GitHub Releases and install it (updates install over earlier versions and keep saves):
adb install -r Quest3-OOT-v1.3.apk
2. Copy your ROM
Put your ROM in the headset's Download folder (any file name works; v1.3 finds it anywhere on the Quest):
adb push your-oot-rom.z64 /sdcard/Download/
3. Play
In the headset: App Library → Unknown Sources → Quest 3: OOT. Allow access to edit files on device, then return to the game. The first launch shows loading dots for 1 to 2 minutes while it builds the game data from your ROM (once only).
4. Optional: 3D rooms and HD textures
Download Djipi's 3DS Experience (djipi_s_3ds_experience_tot_fix.zip, GameBanana), unzip it and copy the files into SOHVR → mods on the headset. Files 26, 27, 32 and 33 replace the green pre-rendered backdrops with real 3D rooms; all 37 files give the full 3DS HD look. The game compresses the pack to ASTC in the background (about 3 minutes), then asks for one restart.
Default VR controls
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Move / Turn | Left stick / right stick (smooth; snap turning in settings) |
| Sword / Shield | Swing your sword hand / raise your shield hand |
| Choose an item | Click right stick, flick toward an item, release |
| Use an item | Trigger |
| Z-target / Shield (R) | Left grip / right grip |
| Pause | Y |
| Settings | Left menu button |
The first launch shows only loading dots for 1 to 2 minutes while it builds the game from your ROM: it is not frozen. If no ROM is found, an in-headset setup screen explains what to do; check the ROM at ship.equipment. Still seeing green backdrops? Files 32 and 33 must be directly in SOHVR/mods (no subfolder) and Settings > Mod Menu > Enable Mods must be on. Some players report a crash in the Chamber of Sages cutscene with the latest Djipi pack update (workaround in the GameBanana comments). For smoother world animation try VR Settings > Performance > Stereo Render Divisor 1 (default 2 is lighter). Quest issues go to the GitHub repo, not the Ship of Harkinian Discord.
