Overview
OpenCMR2 VR by DR-89 (also behind Time Crisis VR and Time Crisis II VR) is an experimental VR fork of pablocpas/OpenCMR2, the native SDL port built on pablocpas/CMR2Decomp, the decompilation of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (Codemasters, 2000). It runs natively on Meta Quest 3 with stereo rendering at 120 Hz (a measured steady driving sample averaged 119.97 FPS at 1344 x 1408 per eye), with Touch controller bindings. A Windows PCVR / OpenXR build is on the same release page.
[!NOTE] No original game data is included (no cars, tracks, music or videos). You need your own full installed PC copy of Colin McRae Rally 2.0: console editions, demos, an ISO file or an uninstalled CD are not sufficient. v0.1.0 is an early release: a playable race and the import flow have been tested, but performance and compatibility still need work.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 with Developer Mode enabled, its Touch controllers (or a compatible USB gamepad).
- A computer, a USB data cable and SideQuest or Android ADB (
platform-tools) for the initial setup. - Your own full PC installation of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (the tested install is about 640 MB).
- About 3 GB free on the headset for the ZIP, the import working copy and the extracted game.
Step-by-Step Installation
- Download
OpenCMR2-VR-Quest-arm64-v0.1.0.apkfrom the official GitHub release v0.1.0 (checksums inSHA256SUMS.txt). - Install it via SideQuest or
adb install -r OpenCMR2-VR-Quest-arm64-v0.1.0.apk. - On your PC, make a ZIP of your Colin McRae Rally 2.0 installation folder (the original files don't need changing).
- Copy the ZIP to the headset and import it from the app, following the README.
- Launch OpenCMR2 VR from Unknown Sources and drive.
120 Hz is requested and reached in the tested stage sections, but occasional missed frames remain and 120 FPS is not guaranteed on every stage or in long sessions. Only the Touch interaction profile has motion-controller bindings; other headsets and Quest models are untested. Split-screen is not adapted for VR and multiplayer is not validated in VR. Extended races, finish/save/load, suspend/resume, controller reconnects and extreme head movement need more testing. If the import fails, check you zipped a full PC installation (not a CD, ISO or demo) and that about 3 GB is free. Report issues on GitHub with version, standalone or PCVR mode, headset and steps (never attach game files).
