Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Install on Quest, in the card above, is the one-click USB install. These steps are the manual path (SideQuest or ADB).

Prerequisites

  • Meta Quest headset with Developer Mode enabled and SideQuest.
  • Optional, for the full game: a legally owned copy of Quake III Arena (Steam or elsewhere, sometimes bundled with Team Arena).

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Install Quake3Quest via SideQuest (or install ioq3quest-release-1.2.0.apk from GitHub Releases).
  2. In your headset, open Unknown Sources and start Quake3Quest. It won't open the first time (it creates the files it needs); start it a second time.
  3. You can now play right away: 4 maps are included.

Full game (all maps and the whole campaign)

  1. On your PC, open the Quake III Arena folder (Steam: right-click Quake III Arena → Manage → Browse local files).
  2. Open the baseq3 folder and copy all .pk3 files.
  3. Paste them into /sdcard/ioquake3quest/baseq3/ on your Quest (SideQuest or Windows File Explorer). Allow overwriting pak0.pk3 if asked.
  4. Start Quake3Quest from Unknown Sources.

Owners of the original CD release must patch their files first: ioquake3 patch data.

Multiplayer

Play over local Wi-Fi or online on dedicated VR-only servers. Use the included Companion App to change your player name.

Troubleshooting & Tips

The first launch only creates the game files and closes: start Quake3Quest a second time. For the full game, copy every .pk3 from the PC baseq3 folder into /sdcard/ioquake3quest/baseq3/ and let pak0.pk3 be overwritten. CD-release owners need the ioquake3 patch data first. Since the September 2026 update (v1.2.0) the default refresh rate is 90 Hz with 1.2 supersampling, and the weapon selector always faces you (the old behaviour can be restored in the options). Change your multiplayer name in the Companion App.
