Overview

Rave Racer VR is an unofficial, fan-made standalone port of Namco's 1995 arcade racer Rave Racer for Meta Quest, by Virtua VR Port. It runs natively on the headset (no PC streaming) in stereoscopic 3D with head tracking, an optional split race HUD and rear-view mirror, collision/road-surface/powerslide haptics and the original C352/C74 game audio emulated. Four modes: Arcade, Mirrored, Time Trial and Time Trial Mirrored. Quest 3 and 3S default to 120 Hz, Quest 2 and Pro to 90 Hz.

Install type: APK + your own game files.

[!IMPORTANT] ROMs are not included. You need your own legally obtained Rave Racer arcade files, with the names exactly as shown: raverace.zip (or a compatible raveracw.zip), namcoc74.zip, and a loose c71.bin. Keep the ROM zips compressed. Not affiliated with Namco or Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Prerequisites

  • Meta Quest 2, 3, 3S or Pro with Developer Mode enabled.
  • A PC with SideQuest and a USB cable.
  • Your raverace.zip (or raveracw.zip), namcoc74.zip and c71.bin.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. On the official itch.io page, download Rave-Racer-VR-Quest-v0.1.2-lifecycle-fix.apk (free; to skip the optional donation choose "No thanks, just take me to the downloads"). The Galaxy XR APK on the same page is a different build.
  2. Open SideQuest, connect the headset and use Install APK file to install it.
  3. Launch Rave Racer VR once from Library > Unknown Sources, then close it. This creates the app's files folder.
  4. In SideQuest's file browser go to /sdcard/Android/data/com.virtuavrport.raveracervr/files/.
  5. Copy raverace.zip (or raveracw.zip), namcoc74.zip and the loose c71.bin into that folder.
  6. Relaunch Rave Racer VR and play.

Troubleshooting & Tips

Game does not start or reports missing files: the ROM files must be in /sdcard/Android/data/com.virtuavrport.raveracervr/files/ with the exact names raverace.zip (or raveracw.zip), namcoc74.zip and a loose c71.bin; keep the zips compressed and launch the app once first so the folder exists. If the folder is not visible, copy the files with SideQuest's file browser or adb push. v0.1.2 fixes audio corruption and screeching after reopening the app and the delayed "isn't responding" message after EXIT, so update if you see those. Use the left thumbstick click to change the refresh-rate request if the frame rate is unstable. Beta: please do not ask the developer for ROM links.
