Overview
Port0r: Rally VR brings the 1995 arcade Sega Rally Championship (Sega Model 2A) to Meta Quest in true stereoscopic 3D at real scale — not a flat screen floating in a room. The arcade code runs through MAME (0.289), but every 3D polygon the Model 2 board draws is redrawn on the Quest's GPU for each eye, with the board's own textures, palettes, lighting and transparency rules. The game runs locked at 60 fps and is smoothed to 120 Hz.
Highlights: manual gearbox on the side grips, vibrations from the game's own physics, Jean-seb's community HD texture pack (auto-detected), a settings panel in 10 languages, mods (free timer, free play, sporty automatic, adaptive steering, mirrored track), styles (night, comic, black and white) and a Discord leaderboard.
[!NOTE] No game data is included. You need your own, legally owned copy of the arcade game as the MAME set
srallyc.zip(plussegabill.ziponly if yoursrallyc.ziplacks the billboard ROM). The set must match MAME 0.289. Fan project, not affiliated with SEGA or Meta. The app's source code is not public for now.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 (the reference headset; one player reports it runs perfectly on Quest 2).
- Developer Mode enabled (free developer organisation at developer.oculus.com, then Meta Horizon app → Devices → Headset settings → Developer mode, then restart the headset).
- Your MAME 0.289
srallyc.zip(andsegabill.zipif needed) — keep them zipped. - SideQuest or ADB on a computer (or just the headset's browser for the game files).
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Install the APK
Download Port0r-RallyVR-v0.2.5-quest3.apk via 1-click on QuestPorts, from GitHub Releases or itch.io. Install it with SideQuest (Install APK file from folder) or:
adb install -r Port0r-RallyVR-v0.2.5-quest3.apk
The APK checksum is in SHA256SUMS.txt on the release page.
2. Copy your game files
Put srallyc.zip (and segabill.zip only if your set needs it) in the headset's Download folder. The app searches the whole storage, so a ROMS folder from other emulators works too, and names are not case sensitive.
adb push srallyc.zip /sdcard/Download/
adb push segabill.zip /sdcard/Download/ # only if needed
Alternatives: SideQuest's file manager, a USB cable (accept Allow access to data; on Mac use OpenMTP), or download the files in the Quest browser.
3. First launch
- Library → filter All → Unknown sources → Port0r: Rally VR.
- Allow All files access when asked (the app only reads its game files and the optional HD pack).
- Return to the app: the game is copied in and starts by itself. Until then, a setup screen lists the missing files.
4. Optional: HD textures
Get Jean-seb's pack from his video Sega Rally Championship HD textures pack (link in the description) and put the zip or extracted folder next to your game files. It is imported automatically on the next launch (Image → HD textures toggles it).
Controls
| Action | Button |
|---|---|
| Steering | Left stick (or right stick via Settings → Game → Steering stick) |
| Gas / brake | Right trigger / left trigger |
| Gears (manual cars) | Side grips: left = down, right = up |
| Change view | A or B |
| Insert coin / Start | X / B (or click the left stick) |
| Settings panel | Left menu button |
| Pause / resume | Click both thumbsticks |
| Recenter | Y (or hold the right Meta button 2 s) |
Driving modes in the settings: Soft stick, Direct stick or VR wheel (hold an imaginary wheel with both hands).
Updating: install the new APK over the old one; settings and records are kept. From v0.1.0 (different app id), uninstall it first — your game files stay on the headset.
Files reported missing: names must be srallyc.zip (and segabill.zip only if asked), kept zipped, and All files access must be allowed (Settings > Apps > Port0r: Rally VR > Permissions). "Wrong version of the game files": the set must match MAME 0.289 — rebuild it with a ROM manager (ClrMamePro, RomVault) and drop the corrected zip on the headset; the newest copy is picked up automatically. Controllers do nothing: restart the headset. Stutter: keep Dynamic resolution on (Smoothness tab) or set Resolution to Native. App not in the Library: look under Unknown sources; Developer Mode must be on and the headset restarted. Known issues: driving on grass does not vibrate yet; attract-intro trees hidden behind the title panel can be seen. Help: #ask-port0r bot on the Port0r Discord. Fan project, not affiliated with SEGA or Meta; no game data is provided.
