Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Install on Quest, in the card above, is the one-click USB install. These steps are the manual path (SideQuest or ADB).

Overview

Time Crisis II VR plays the arcade version of Time Crisis II (US TSS3 Ver. B, not the PlayStation 2 version) natively on Meta Quest 3. It is built on the System 23 reconstruction in spacestate1/namco22-decompile (the arcade's MIPS and H8 code translated to C), with the OpenXR host, controller options and weapon rendering adapted from DR-89's Time Crisis VR. The original textured world is rendered from tracked stereo viewpoints.

[!NOTE] v0.2.0 is the first public release and is experimental. Quest 3 gameplay, HUD alignment and machine-gun switching were tested in the headset, but it has not been verified through a complete game. Quest 2/3S are not confirmed. The APK (org.timecrisis2.arcadevr) installs alongside the original Time Crisis VR. A Windows PCVR/desktop build is also on the release page (tested with Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop).

Prerequisites

  • Meta Quest 3 with Developer Mode enabled.
  • SideQuest or Android ADB (platform-tools).

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Download the Quest APK (TimeCrisis2VR-v0.2.0-quest3.apk) from the official GitHub Releases (checksums in SHA256SUMS.txt).
  2. Connect your Quest 3 via USB and install via SideQuest or terminal: adb install -r TimeCrisis2VR-v0.2.0-quest3.apk
  3. Launch the game from Unknown Sources → Time Crisis II VR (Test). The release package includes the game files and weapon models, so no separate ZIP import is needed.
  4. Wait for the arcade startup, press A (Right Controller) to insert credits, then press either Trigger to start!

Updating an existing test build keeps your settings and cabinet data.

Controls & Cover System

  • Either Trigger: Move the gun to that hand and shoot (hold for automatic fire with the machine gun)
  • Hold either Grip: Leave cover; release both to duck and reload
  • A (Right): Insert arcade credits
  • B (Right): Toggle laser (on by default)
  • X (Left): Recenter / calibrate upright height
  • Left Menu button: Options. In options: Right stick click changes the default hand, Right stick up/down adjusts GUN ANGLE (-60 to +60°), Left stick click resets it, Y switches between grip cover and Physical Ducking
  • Physical Ducking: select it in options, stand or sit upright and press X to calibrate, then duck to hide/reload and stand back up to shoot.
  • Machine gun: equipped automatically during the arcade's scripted sections (e.g. Stage 1, Area 2); there is no weapon-select button.

With the left hand saved as default, the face buttons swap: X credits, Y laser, A recenter, B cover-mode selection.

Features

  • Tracked stereo world rendering, shooting with either hand
  • Animated pistol slide and Tripo3D machine gun switched by the arcade's actual weapon state, recoil, muzzle flash and haptics
  • Health/ammunition HUD and player markers aligned on one plane
  • Cinematic black bars removed in VR, dialogue and transition text kept
  • Arcade simulation at ~59.906 Hz; headset runs at 120 Hz when offered
Troubleshooting & Tips

Target refresh is 120 Hz (the app picks a lower supported rate if 120 Hz is not offered); sustained 120 FPS through the whole game and thermal stability are not yet confirmed. If the gun points too high, reduce GUN ANGLE in options. For crash reports, export logs with Export-Quest-Diagnostics.ps1 from the repository (ADB connected) before relaunching, and open a GitHub issue with version, headset, stage/area and what happened. Not yet verified through a complete game; later stages, effects and audio need broader testing.
