Overview
TPVR brings The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to VR, running standalone on Meta Quest 3: no PC, no cable, no streaming. It is a VR mod by JoeyAW for Dusklight, the native port built on the Twilight Princess decompilation, so the game runs natively rather than in an emulator.
You play Link in full stereoscopic 3D with 6DoF tracking and movement: swing the sword physically (vertical, left, right and stab register as separate attacks), bash with the shield and aim items with your right hand. Wolf Link uses Midna's perspective, and you can switch to a third-person camera or a right-handed sword mode. Single-pass stereo is on by default.
[!NOTE] No game assets are included. You need your own dump of Twilight Princess (any commercial GameCube or Wii disc except the Korean Wii release). Fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo or the Dusklight team. The author states the mod was written with AI-assisted code.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 with Developer Mode enabled (for sideloading).
- SideQuest (Advanced Installer) or ADB on a computer.
- Your own Twilight Princess disc dump as
.isoor.rvz(how to dump).
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Install the APK
Download tpve-android-arm64.apk (v2.3.0) via 1-click on QuestPorts or from GitHub Releases and install it:
adb install -r tpve-android-arm64.apk
Alternative: install TPVR from SideQuest (app 62532); the SideQuest listing may lag behind the GitHub release.
[!WARNING] Updating to v2.3.0? Back up your save first. This release changed the Android signing key. The author tried to keep saves, but they may be lost, especially if you deny file access. If Android refuses to install over your old version, uninstall it (after backing up) and install again.
2. Copy your game dump
Put your .iso or .rvz anywhere easy to reach on the headset, for example the Download folder:
adb push your-tp-dump.rvz /sdcard/Download/
3. Play
In the headset: App Library → Unknown Sources → TPVR. On first launch, select your dump when asked, choose the Dusklight experience, then press Play.
Controls
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Sword | Swing your sword hand (sword techniques and some scripted boss attacks use B) |
| Shield | Bash with your shield hand |
| Aim items | Right hand |
| Turning | Smooth or snap (speed and increments in VR settings) |
| Dusklight menu | Hold right stick + right trigger |
The first boot can take a while (shader compilation): give it time before assuming it froze. If the game asks for your ROM again after an update, point it back to your .iso/.rvz. Some bosses and enemies with scripted attacks (e.g. Argorok, Beast Ganon, Morpheel) don't react to physical sword collision: press B or turn off physical sword swinging in the VR settings. If you updated from a version before v2.2.0, you may need to switch physical sword collision on manually. Players report it also runs on Quest 2, with some shader-compilation stutter and pop-in (not officially tested). Bug reports go to the TPVR Discord or GitHub, not to the Dusklight team.
