Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Install on Quest, in the card above, is the one-click USB install. These steps are the manual path (SideQuest or ADB).

Overview

Wipeout Rewrite VR by SgtBilko76 (Port Royale) is a native Quest port of wipEout Rewrite by phoboslab, the open-source re-implementation of the 1995 PlayStation classic. Races are rendered in stereo 3D with head tracking on top of the game camera; the HUD floats in front of you and the intro, title and menus play on a large virtual screen. Press Y to switch between the cockpit and chase views. Runs at 90 Hz on Quest 3 with 4x MSAA.

[!NOTE] No game data is included. You need the data from your own PS1 NTSC copy of wipEout, copied to the headset from a PC with adb. This is the first public beta (v0.1.0-beta1).

Prerequisites

  • Meta Quest with Developer Mode enabled (Quest 3 tested; Quest 2, 3S and Pro shown working in community gameplay).
  • A PC with Android ADB (platform-tools) and a USB cable.
  • The game data from your own PS1 NTSC wipEout.

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Download WipeoutRewriteVR-0.1.0-beta1-quest.apk from the official GitHub release (also linked from the Port Royale page).
  2. Install it via SideQuest or adb install -r WipeoutRewriteVR-0.1.0-beta1-quest.apk.
  3. Prepare a wipeout/ folder with your game data as described in the README.
  4. Put that folder into a checkout of the repository and, with the headset connected, run android/push_data.sh before the first start. The game unpacks the data on its next launch.
  5. Optional music: add tracks as wipeout/music/trackNN.qoa in QOA format.
  6. Launch it from Library → Unknown Sources.

Controls

  • Left stick: steer (navigate in menus). A select, B back.
  • Right trigger: thrust. Left trigger: fire weapon.
  • Left / right grip: left / right airbrake.
  • Y: change view (cockpit / chase). Menu: pause.
Troubleshooting & Tips

Opening the Quest system menu during a race does not pause the game; pause with the Menu button first. A few menu models that only exist in the PC version are skipped. If the game starts without data, re-run android/push_data.sh with the headset connected and launch again. Music only plays if you added .qoa tracks.
