Overview
Xelee by rhythmerc is a mixed reality port of Nintendo's 2001 GameCube fighter Super Smash Bros. Melee for Meta Quest 3 and 3S. It doesn't put you inside the game: the fighters and stages float in your room through passthrough, on your table or floor, and you can walk around them. It's built on melee-pc, the native PC port of the doldecomp/melee decompilation, running on aurora/Dawn and SDL3. It has full Slippi online support (Unranked and Direct, compatible with players on Slippi Dolphin), and every stage and 1P mode has been tweaked for MR.
Install type: APK + your own game files. You pick your disc image in the launcher with the system file picker.
[!IMPORTANT] No game data is included. You need your own Super Smash Bros. Melee NTSC-U 1.02 disc image (
.iso,.gcm,.cisoor.rvz). The launcher checks it against the Redump database. Fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo, HAL Laboratory or Meta. The README says the code was written with AI assistance (Claude).
[!NOTE] Beta (prerelease). v0.2.0-beta (October 26, 2026). It's mixed reality, not full VR. The README targets Quest 3 and 3S.
Highlights:
- Stage placement with hands or controllers (move, turn, scale), saved as a baseline for every stage, and a shadow on the real surface below.
- Touch controllers with rumble, or an external gamepad. Laser-pointer menus.
- 60 fps with ASW to 120 Hz, dynamic resolution (80–130 %), 2x MSAA, foveated rendering (Off/Low/Medium/High).
- Spatial audio (Steam Audio) and UCF 0.84 with Slippi's rules on by default offline.
- New in v0.2.0-beta: Roomtone lighting (beta), which lights the fighters and stage with your room's light measured by the headset's cameras; in-game Graphics, Audio, Gameplay and Controls pages with input remapping; Slippi login and registration in the game; and playing from behind the stage.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 or 3S with Developer Mode enabled.
- Your Melee NTSC-U 1.02 disc image.
- A Slippi account for online play (the same one Slippi Launcher uses), or create one in the game.
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Install the APK
Download Xelee-Quest-arm64.apk via 1-click on QuestPorts or from GitHub Releases.
- With a PC: sideload it with SideQuest or
adb install Xelee-Quest-arm64.apk. - On the headset, no PC: download the APK in the headset's browser, open the Files app > Downloads, tap the three dots next to the APK > Open with > Package installer, allow Files to install apps, then choose Install.
2. Copy your disc image
Put your disc image on the headset, for example in Download, over USB or with:
adb push "Super Smash Bros. Melee (USA) (v1.02).iso" /sdcard/Download/
3. First launch
- Open Xelee from Library > Unknown Sources. It opens as a flat panel in your home environment.
- Choose your disc with the system file picker and let it verify.
- On the first launch (and after updates) the launcher builds the game's shaders, which takes a few minutes. Let it finish for smooth first fights, or press Play to skip it.
- Press Play. Before each fight the stage waits for you to place it (turn this off with Before each fight in the launcher).
Placing the stage
| Hands | Controllers | |
|---|---|---|
| Move | Point at the stage, pinch and drag | Point, hold grip and drag |
| Turn | Pinch with both hands and twist | Both grips and twist |
| Scale | Pinch with both hands, pull apart or together | Both grips, pull apart or together |
A or Start begins the fight, B resets the stage, Y hides the tips. Place Stage in Options (and in Online Mode) sets the spot for every stage.
Controls (Touch controllers play as player one)
| Touch | GameCube |
|---|---|
| Left stick | Control stick |
| Right stick | C-stick |
| A / B / X / Y | A / B / X / Y |
| Triggers | Analog L / R (digital past 90 %) |
| Either grip | Z |
| Left menu button | Start |
Point at the screen and pull a trigger to click menus. An external gamepad plays alongside the Touch controllers. Fight inputs can be remapped per device in Options > Controls.
Playing online
Sign in with Online Mode > Slippi > Login, or register a new account there (verify your email, accept Slippi's rules and choose a connect code). Then pick Unranked or Direct (connect codes). Ranked, Teams and Party aren't supported yet.
Updating: the launcher checks for new releases at each start. Choose Update Now, then Install, and confirm in the system dialog.
The disc is rejected: Xelee needs Super Smash Bros. Melee NTSC-U 1.02 (.iso, .gcm, .ciso or .rvz); the launcher checks it against Redump, so other regions or revisions fail. Stutter in the first fights: let the launcher finish building shaders on first launch and after updates. Low performance: try a higher foveated rendering level or lower Resolution in the launcher settings. The stage is in the wrong place: run Place Stage from Options, or grab it again while paused (online matches can't pause, so Place Stage runs on your first online match of each session). Roomtone lighting asks for camera access only when you choose it; run Options > Graphics > Calibrate room light again if the lighting looks off. "Please restart Slippi Launcher" or online errors: log in through Online Mode > Slippi and complete the setup steps; Ranked, Teams and Party aren't supported yet. App not in the Library: look under Unknown Sources; Developer Mode must be on (or install from the headset's Files app). Fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo, HAL Laboratory or Meta; no game data is provided.
