Overview
Need for Speed: Underground 2 VR runs EA's 2004 street racer natively on Meta Quest 3 using a static recompilation of the original Xbox USA / NTSC-U release (xboxrecomp, Vulkan + OpenXR), based on antoxa2584x's nfsu2-sw. It adds a full cockpit fitted to all 29 stock cars, motion steering by gripping the virtual wheel, working mirrors, a speed display on the instruments and the map on the center console. Same developer as Need for Speed: Underground VR.
Install type: APK + your own game files (imported on the headset).
[!WARNING] Development build, not fully tested. Bugs, crashes, freezes, visual glitches, audio issues, stutters and performance problems can occur, and stable VR frame rates are not guaranteed. Quest 3 is the verified target. The current
dev-2026-10-17downloads include the 0.3.1-dev steering hotfix (October 18): small wheel movements now compensate for the game's stick deadzone. The download URLs stay the same, so reinstall the APK over the old one to get it.
[!IMPORTANT] No game data is included. You need your own unmodified original Xbox USA / NTSC-U copy of Need for Speed: Underground 2. PC and European editions, modified game files, RAR archives and split archives do not work.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 with Developer Mode enabled.
- A computer with SideQuest or ADB, and a USB-C data cable.
- Your game as
.iso/.xiso, a.zip/.7zof the game files (default.xbeand the completeNFSUNDER/folder, includingZDIR.BINandZZDATA0.BINtoZZDATA9.BIN), or a.zip/.7zcontaining exactly one ISO. - Free space for the import: about 5 GB with a ZIP/7z of game files, 11 GB with a full ~7.8 GB ISO, 17 GB with a ~5.9 GB 7z containing the ISO (about 2.4 GB of verified files stay installed).
Step-by-Step Installation
- Download
NFSU2VR-Quest3-dev-2026-10-17.apkfrom the official GitHub Releases (checksums inSHA256SUMS.txt). - Connect the Quest by USB, accept Allow USB debugging, and install it with SideQuest (Install APK file from folder) or:

Downloadfolder (File Explorer: This PC > Quest 3 > Internal shared storage > Download, SideQuest's file manager, oradb push NFSU2-USA.iso /). The app installs the files into its own storage during import.sdcard/ Download/ - In the headset open Library > Unknown Sources > NFSU2 Quest Development. The first launch opens the game data setup panel.
- Press Select archive, browse to Downloads, pick your ISO/XISO/ZIP/7z and wait for Import complete (keep the panel open).

| Action | Touch control |
|---|---|

| Nitro / handbrake | A / B |
| Cycle camera / look back | Right stick click / left stick click (outside the cockpit) |
| Recenter | Both stick clicks together |

| Manual gear up / down | Right stick up / down |
| VR Settings | Pause, then X (stick or D-pad to adjust, B to save) |
VR Settings cover steering sensitivity, wheel rotation, seat height/distance and per-eye resolution (resolution changes need a restart).
Updating: install the new APK over the previous one; do not uninstall first, or imported data, saves and settings are deleted. To change game data later, use NFSU2 · Game data > Reimport game data.
Development build: rendering issues, stutters and performance limits remain and a stable 72 FPS is not established. Import fails or says the data is unsupported: use the unmodified original Xbox USA/NTSC-U Underground 2 disc; PC and European editions, RAR and split archives are not supported (extract on a PC first, then copy the ISO or repack the files as ZIP/7z). Not enough storage: free space for both the source file and the temporary extraction. "Game still running": close the game before reimporting and press Check again. APK copied but no app appears: install with SideQuest's APK installer or adb install -r and check Unknown Sources. Steering feels dead in the center: reinstall the current dev-2026-10-17 APK (0.3.1-dev hotfix) over the old one. Never uninstall to update: that deletes imported data and saves.
