Overview
Port0r: Daytona USA VR brings Sega AM2's 1994 arcade racer Daytona USA (Sega Model 2) to Meta Quest 3 as a standalone app in true stereoscopic 3D at real scale. The arcade code runs through MAME (0.289), and Port0r's own renderer redraws every 3D polygon for each eye at the headset's full resolution, so you sit in the race instead of watching a flat screen. It's from the same developer as Port0r: Rally VR, Port0r: Cop VR and Port0r: House of the Dead VR.
Install type: APK + your own game files.
Highlights:
- The arcade's camera views (rolling start, chase, far chase and bumper view).
- Logitech wheels work in standalone through the headset's USB-C port.
- The cabinet's own settings in Settings > Mods > Cabinet settings: Japanese or export version, and difficulty.
- New in v0.1.8: an online leaderboard. Finish a race and the headset offers to publish your time (one board per course: Beginner, Advanced and Expert) on the Port0r Discord and port0r.com/leaderboard.
[!NOTE] No game data is included. You need your own, legally owned copy of the arcade game as the MAME sets
daytona.zipandmodel1io.zip, kept zipped. The sets must match MAME 0.289. Fan project, not affiliated with SEGA or Meta.
Prerequisites
- Meta Quest 3 (the reference headset; the developer reports Quest 2 players running Port0r games too).
- Developer Mode enabled (free developer organisation at developer.oculus.com, then Meta Horizon app > Devices > Headset settings > Developer mode, then restart the headset).
- Your MAME 0.289
daytona.zipandmodel1io.zip. - SideQuest or ADB on a computer (or just the headset's browser for the game files).
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Install the APK
Download Port0r-DaytonaUSAVR-v0.1.8-quest3.apk via 1-click on QuestPorts, from GitHub Releases or itch.io. Install it with SideQuest (Install APK file from folder) or:
adb install -r Port0r-DaytonaUSAVR-v0.1.8-quest3.apk
The APK checksum is in SHA256SUMS.txt on the release page.
2. Copy your game files
Put daytona.zip and model1io.zip in the headset's Download folder. The app searches the whole storage, so a ROMS folder from other emulators works too, and names are not case sensitive.
adb push daytona.zip model1io.zip /sdcard/Download/
You can also copy them with SideQuest's file browser, over USB (accept Allow access to data in the headset; on a Mac use OpenMTP), or download them from your own cloud storage with the headset's browser.
3. First launch
- Library > filter All > Unknown sources > Port0r: Daytona USA VR.
- Allow All files access when asked.
- Return to the app: the game is copied in and starts by itself. Until then, a setup screen lists the missing files.
Updating: Daytona USA VR checks its releases at launch, shows what's new and installs the update from the headset; settings and records are kept.
Files reported missing: the files must be named daytona.zip and model1io.zip, kept zipped (not extracted folders), and All files access must be allowed (Settings > Apps > Port0r: Daytona USA VR > Permissions). "Wrong version of the game files": the sets must match MAME 0.289; check them with a ROM manager (ClrMamePro, RomVault) and drop the corrected zips on the headset in place of the old ones. Controllers do nothing: restart the headset. The game stutters: turn on Dynamic resolution (Smoothness tab) or set Resolution to Native. App not in the Library: look under Unknown sources; Developer Mode must be on and the headset restarted. Help: #install-help and #bug-reports on the Port0r Discord. Fan project, not affiliated with SEGA or Meta; no game data is provided.
